David Doetsch of Newburgh, NY, died March 5th. He was 84. He was the son of the late Charles and Helen (Dorrer) Doetsch. He was predeceased by his siblings Gerald, Eugene and Warren Doetsch. He grew up in Callicoon, NY, and was a proud military veteran and Siena College graduate. He went on to be a salesman for Canada Dry, then worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. Known affectionately as “Mugsy” by his family, he was happiest when he and the love of his life, Patricia Hopper, relaxed together at home with their dog, Mac. He was an avid history buff with a civil war collection that would rival a museum. He never missed a Yankee game or a Giants game.

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Sofokles and her children Nicholas, Alexandra and Bradley; Bradley’s sons Brad and Xavier; David’s late son, William Hopper’s daughter, Kathryn Hopper; his sister-in-law, Mary-Francis Barr and her husband Dennis and their daughters, Lynn Barr and Lori Dwyer; Lori’s husband Scott Dwyer and her children Edward and Emma.

A service will be held in the spring, where we can gather and remember both David and Patricia and lay them to rest together with a bagpipe ceremony the way they wanted. To send a personal condolence, please visit www.brooksfh.com
