DVAA welcomes Arm-of-the-Sea back to the Tusten Theatre with their latest production, “Dirt: The Secret Life of Soil”

NARROWSBURG - The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) is thrilled to welcome audiences of all ages to join us at the Tusten Theatre on Saturday May 14 at 1 p.m. for the latest Arm-of-the-Sea production, “DIRT: THE SECRET LIFE OF SOIL” which asks the question, where does food “come from” and from what is it made? Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

A lively primer for urban bumpkins and upcountry gardeners alike, DIRT fuses cutting-edge science and age-old puppetry, taking audiences on an extravagant journey of discovery into the Great Underneath—revealing the epic alchemy of plants, the fungi’s dance of mutual delight, and the microbes’ herculean labors.

With a run time of 55 minutes, DIRT features live music and a myriad of puppet figures ranging from 12” to 12’ tall. It reminds earthly residents of all ages how profoundly essential the ground beneath their feet is.

Arm-of-the-Sea is an arts ensemble that fuses visual storytelling with live music in contemporary works of mask and puppet theater. Founded in 1982 by Marlena Marallo and Patrick Wadden, the company’s hybrid style channels the evocative power of the arts as a force for joy, insight, and community uplift. Their low-tech devices of theatrical enchantment illuminate relations between humans and the life-support networks of this blue-ocean planet. Under the direction of Marallo & Wadden, the creative team includes musicians Eli Winograd, Dean Jones, and Juan Basilio Sanchez, and performers Kira deCoudres, Trey Daniels, Anna Hafner, Soyal Smalls. and Lauren Smith.

Arm-of-the-Sea tours its original productions to cultural centers, festivals, and schools throughout the Northeast. They host THE ESOPUS CREEK PUPPET SUITE each August in Saugerties, adjacent to the site of a 19th-century paper mill which the organization is transforming into The Tidewater Center for Arts, Science and Local History.
