SULLIVAN COUNTY – Spring sports are ramping up around Sullivan County now that students are returning from break. With more than fifty games scheduled this week, all eight schools and their various teams are in action this week.

Baseball

Tri-Valley 7 Liberty 5

The Bears got back in the win column on the road against Liberty. Austin Hartman had two hits for Tri-Valley, Tanner Bury had four hits for Liberty, including a triple and two RBIs. Andrew Cox pitched 6.1 innings for the Bears and accrued 13 strikeouts. The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but a 4-run 3rd inning gave the Bears the edge. Liberty plated a run in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run at first but fell short of the victory.

Sullivan West 12 Livingston Manor 4

Justin Grund took the mound for the Bulldogs as they took on the Wildcats in a non-league matchup. Grund pitched 6.2 innings, giving up just five hits and 0 earned runs, while fanning 13 on the way to the victory. The win brings the Bulldogs closer to the .500 mark at 3-4 overall, while still 0-1 in the division.

Softball

Tri-Valley 17 Liberty 8

Jenna Carmody led the Bears to victory both as a pitcher and batter. She pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and went 4-5 at the plate with two home runs, six RBIs and four runs scored.

Liberty’s Rebecca Philips hit a double and a triple, driving three runs in and scoring once in the loss. Philips also tossed a complete game for Liberty.

Sullivan West 9 Livingston Manor 2

Sullivan West avenged their early season loss to Livingston Manor with a 9-2 win at home. Riley Ernst threw a complete game, giving up only three hits, two walks and striking out 8. Mackenzie Carlson, the Wildcats ace pitcher, struck out seven but gave up nine hits and five walks in the non-league loss. The Bulldogs are 2-3 overall and have yet to play a division game.

Eldred 15 Monticello 0

Eldred rebounded from their loss to Port Jervis with a shutout win against Monticello. Dana Donnelly was lights out on the mound, tossing a complete game and striking out seven while only giving up three hits. Eighth grader Olivia Gonzalez led the offense for the Lady Yellowjackets, going 3-3 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Golf

Tri-Valley 294 Liberty 296

Liberty and Tri-Valley had their first golf outing of the season, and Tri-Valley won by a close margin. Gavin Clark had a phenomenal day, shooting a match-best 38 for the Bears. Quentin Herzog and Chase Racette each scored 55 for Liberty. Jeremy Simon had the best score of the day for the Indians with a 53, but the division clash went in favor of the Bears.
