Ed passed away peacefully in South Pasadena, Florida following a stroke due to cardiovascular disease.

Ed was born in Harris, NY, weighing 2 1/2 lbs., to Edward F. and Ethel Lee Fogarty. To keep this tiny boy warm, he was placed in a laundry basket surrounded with canning jars filled with hot water. After this precarious start in life he grew into a tall, healthy, young man.

Upon graduating from Liberty High School in 1950 Ed worked in the Liberty area in the B. Schwartz Car Dealership. After a time, Ed married Jean Scarvalone and when he was drafted into the Army, Jean accompanied him when he was stationed in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. When he was honorably discharged, he and Jean started a family and in 1963 welcomed Maura and subsequently Darren. Sadly, Maura died March 6, 1980 at the age of 16 from a heretofore unknown birth disorder. Ed worked for Equitable Life in Poughkeepsie for many years prior to returning to Harris, NY.

Following his retirement from South End Auto Parts in Liberty, NY, Ed moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where he met and married Margarite. They lived happily together for more than 20 years in South Pasadena, Florida. Ed and Margarite enjoyed traveling, including ocean liner voyages to Europe and river cruises. New England was another loved destination, especially the Newport, RI area and Martha’s Vineyard.

Ed is survived by his son, Darren (LisaRenee) of New Windsor; his sister, Margaret Gorton (Roy) of Roscoe; his brother, Thomas (Lynn) of Monticello; his grandsons, James and Aiden Fogarty; his nieces and nephews, Amy Hill (Michael), Andrew, Carrie and Timothy (Erica) Gorton, Sean (Madison) and Ryan Fogarty. He also leaves his dear friend, Pat.

Ed was predeceased by his parents Edward F. and Ethel Fogarty; his wife, Margarite and his daughter, Maura.

Ed was good natured. He had twinkling Irish eyes and filled a room with his charm and laughter. Ed will always be remembered and held in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him.
