Eggleton eyes reelection in Rockland

LIVINGSTON MANOR –– Incumbent Rob Eggleton is seeking his fourth term as Town of Rockland Supervisor this November. He is running on the Democratic and Conservative party lines.

Eggleton, a past member of the Roscoe Kiwanis and Roscoe-Rockland Fire Department, said the town has come so far in the last few years, and he’s running for another term because there’s more work to do.

“Our town is vibrant and changing,” said Eggleton. “A lot of the people in town offices are getting ready to retire. So the transition is going to be a little bit more difficult [over the] next couple years. Having someone with knowledge and experience is key at this point.”

Eggleton praised his current town board. In the past couple years they’ve completed both upgrades for the Roscoe sewer plant, as well as a brand new one for Livingston Manor. Other accomplishments include having converted all of the town’s street lights to LEDs (a savings of about $19,000 a year through NYSEG), and the town also completed their comprehensive master plan.

He added that, “There are numerous action items in there [the master plan] that we need to start looking at and moving forward with as far as transportation, agriculture, infrastructure projects. We’ve joined the [O&W] Rail Trail Alliance. [The trail] is going to end in Livingston Manor. So we’re very close to having it connect from here all the way to the Town of Liberty, which is really good for anybody wanting to get outdoors and the community itself. Finishing a lot of these projects is a real priority.”

Eggleton said the town has caught up on a lot of its zoning, but that it’s constantly changing. Additional goals if re-elected include completing infrastructure projects like new purification systems for their sewer plants in order to comply with a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation mandate.

“We’ve already done the engineering and are ready to go, we’re just waiting on the grant money to come through from the state and federal government,” said Eggleton.

On why he feels he is the best person for the job, Eggleton said, “I was born and raised here. I've always been community-minded. I was on the Zoning Board of Appeals for six years. I was on the town board for five years prior to being the supervisor for the last seven years. It's always in my blood to help keep our community nice and healthy for everyone to enjoy,” while adding the importance of balance in regard to development, allowing for some of it, but making sure the town is not overrun with it.
