FALLSBURG –– The Comets and Yellowjackets met up on Tuesday night to make up a rained-out non-league game from earlier in the season. Eldred qualified for Sectionals after sweeping Roscoe and Manor, while Fallsburg missed the cut after struggling this season. Eldred jumped ahead early and defeated Fallsburg 12-2 in five innings.

The Yellowjackets got on the board quickly, with each of their first three batters scoring in the first inning. The Comets’ offense had no answer to Josh Warming’s lights-out pitching early in the game, and didn’t score their first run until the 4th inning. During that scoreless stretch, Eldred tacked on an additional eight runs, expanding the lead to 11-0 in the middle of the 4th.

Andrew Rein reached on a single in the fourth for Fallsburg, and came around to score after a double by Lucas Parisi.

In the top of the fifth, Eldred added an insurance run as Josh Warming came around to score for the fourth time of the game. The Yellowjackets extended their lead to 12-1, but were unable to do any additional damage as they left the bases loaded to end the inning.

The Comets added an additional run in the bottom half of the fifth, but were unable to cut the Eldred lead down after that, and the game concluded at 12-2 after five innings.

Josh Warming led the offense, going 2-3 with a double, single, walk, and fielder’s choice, and scoring in each of his four plate appearances. The top of the order for Eldred scored runs in bunches, with 10 of their 12 runs being scored by the first four batters in the order.

The Yellowjackets will take on Chapel Field on Saturday in a Sectional matchup that starts at 11 a.m. in Saugerties.
