Eldred gets the upset over Sullivan West on the road

SULLIVAN WEST –– Eldred came out to Sullivan West last Saturday for a very close girls soccer game. It was an intense back and forth the entire game but Eldred was able to take home a 2-0 win on the road over Sullivan West. “It was a well played game by both sides and was very competitive” commented Eldred coach Kevin Moscatiello. Sullivan West coach Megan Brockner echoed this sentiment as well when she said  “I think both teams played really hard, we had a few missed opportunities but everyone on both sides of the field worked very hard and played aggressive.”

Eldred drew first blood with an early goal in the first 15 minutes but after that both teams struggled to get any momentum going or find the net. It was an intense battle of wills with neither side willing to give much ground. It seemed like Sullivan West was more dominant throughout the game and had more ball possession time. But every time Sullivan West would get into a rhythm, an Eldred defender would dart in and stop them right before they got into goal range. The first half ended with Eldred up by 1 but the momentum of the game was still balanced.

Going into the second half SW came out of the gate hard and aggressive. For the first 10 minutes they didn’t even let Eldred hold the ball long enough to get a shot off. As the second half continued SW was pouring on the pressure taking shot after shot and even getting a couple free kicks but they just couldn’t find the goal. Eldred on the other hand got very few attempts but each one missed by only a small margin. The intensity continued to increase until the final 5 minutes where Eldred was able to sink a perfect shot over the stretched out fingers of Sullivan West’s goalie. Leading 2-0, all Eldred had to do was play defense and wait out the last 5 minutes for the win. “It was an impressive game and both teams played incredibly, I’m proud of everyone on the field”, commented SW coach Megan Brockner.

After their win on the road Eldred coach Kevin Moscatiello said this about his team, “I’m happy we were able to get the win after stepping up to a C school, that definitely feels good. Now we just need to focus on working hard and completing the rest of the season and hopefully go on to win the championship.”
