Elizabeth J. Conklin, “Jeannette” as she was known by friends and family, age 60, of Callicoon, NY fought a courageous battle with cancer and peacefully died at home on September 16, 2022 with her loving husband by her side.

Jeannette was born in Phoenix, Arizona on January 22, 1962 to her late parents, Howard W. Montgomery and Wanda K. Westerndorff.

Jeanette traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1989. She fell in love with the Alaskan lifestyle and made Alaska her home for 23 years. Jeannette loved the outdoors and she and her husband spent their summers gold dredging recreationally every chance they got.

Jeannette worked as a bartender at various establishments in Fairbanks but most enjoyed working at Fairbank Elks Lodge #1551. When she decided to leave bartending, Jeannette worked at Chena Bingo Hall for several years. In 2019, Jeannette and her husband moved to Callicoon, NY. She fell in love with the area and the “million dollar” view of the surrounding mountains and the abundant wildlife. Jeannette looked forward to summers spending a “girl’s week” touring the wineries, going to the casino and shopping in the Finger Lakes region.

Jeanette is survived by her husband of 15 years Harold “Sam” Conklin; her sisters, Lavada Tatro, Glendale, Ariz., Rebecca Briley and husband Chris Omaha, Neb., Deanna Abbate and husband Frederick Glendale, Ariz., and her brother, Howard Montgomery and husband B.J. Follett, Tempe, Ariz.; stepdaughters Jessica Kenyon and husband, Andy, Callicoon, NY and Danielle Gibbs and husband, Charles, of Fairbanks, Alaska; several grandchildren and one great-grandaughter.

At Jeanette’s request there will be no viewing or service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Delaware Ambulance Corps, PO Box 238, Hankins, NY 12741 or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.
