Equinunk Historical Society to Recognize and Honor Wayne County Veterans

EQUINUNK, PA - On Saturday, June 18, visiting speaker Kim Erickson will outline the work she has been doing to preserve the memory of countless Wayne County veterans. Kim has been deeply involved in honoring veterans in many ways. When you hear about her accomplishments, you will be amazed. She began in 2007 with the Wayne County Tour of Honor, when more than 200 individuals, WWII veterans and their escorts, flew in a rented plane to Washington DC. The sponsoring group raised more than $42,000 to rent a large enough plane. Kim proudly complimented by the people of Wayne County for generously contributing the funds to cover the trip and more.
Kim will tell you about the work involved in creating the Walk of Honor next to the Wayne County Courthouse, and the Veterans' Banners project in downtown Honesdale. The banners grew in number from 92 to over 140 by last count. She also contributed time and funds to bring the Viet Nam Wall to Bingham Park in Hawley, the only place large enough to accomodate it.
Kim's energy and boundless enthusiasm will captivate us, and certainly add to our knowledge of Wayne County's efforts to honor those who gave a part or all of their lives to protect our freedoms.
The program will begin at 1 p.m., The Museum and Calder Gift Shop opens at noon. EHS is located at the junction of the Hancock Highway (Rte. 191) and Pine MIll Rd. in the center of Equinunk. call 570-224-6722 for information or directions. Website: www.equinunkhistory.org
