JEFFERSONVILLE – Classes are filling up for the fall dance and Music Together programs at The Janice Center, now entering its 18th year as a home for the arts.
The Fall Dance Session which includes hip hop, ballet and lyrical starts August 31 and some classes are already near capacity, so interested participants should register as soon as possible.
The Janice Center dance program is the largest in Sullivan County, emphasizing development, camaraderie, performance, and recreation rather than competition. Recitals are staged on auditorium and theater stages, not gymnasium floors.
The cost of costumes rarely exceeds $50, not $500. All in all, it’s a program where kids get to express themselves in a comfortable, pressure-free environment.
There are four Hip Hop classes, three Ballet classes and one Lyrical class covering ages 4 and up. For all Hip Hop classes (except Urban Uproar on Saturday), students can take the bus to The Janice Center directly from Sullivan West Elementary. For those coming from other schools, class starts at 4 p.m. This fall, all ballet classes will also be held during the week at 5 p.m. Lyrical will be on Saturday.
The cost for both hip hop and ballet is $230 for the entire session ($220 for returning students from the previous semester). There are sibling discounts available for multiple family members taking classes simultaneously as well as a special multi-dance discount for those taking both Hip Hop and Ballet/Lyrical in the same semester.
A one-time registration fee of $25 is required for all new students.
To register, call 845-482-3324, text 845-423-8028 or email ken@janicecenter.com. Registration forms are available at www.janicecenter.com.
The Fall Music Together semester gets started on Thursday, September 12 at 9:30 a.m. Music Together is the flagship program at The Janice Center, starting hundreds of youngsters on the road to musical and social development.
Since 2008, more than 1200 children have experienced Music Together classes at The Janice Center. Many have gone on to play musical instruments and participate in dance classes with a more developed musical ear and sense of rhythm.
Music Together is a research-backed program that taps into a young child’s musical instincts through specially-composed music, easy-to-use instruments and instructor/parent involvement. Through 10 weeks of 45-minute classes, children ages 0-4 learn to sing in tune, keep a beat and participate with confidence in a group setting.
As one parent said of Music Together, “It’s the best program around for a young child. It offers everything -- interaction, socialization, music, dance and most of all fun!”
