Fallsburg's Ivan Katz honored at school board meeting

Dr. Ivan Katz, the Superintendent of the Fallsburg Central School District, was presented with the Dr. William F. Moran Service Award at Wednesday’s school board meeting.

He was presented the award by Board President Mike Weiner and interim Director of Physical Education and Athletics, as well as former Dr. William F Moran Service Award recipient, Ron Montalto.

The award is presented annually to someone that represents the highest educational standards in Section IX. The Section IX Athletic Council selected Dr. Katz for the award.

“I am humbled to receive this award as it was completely unexpected,” Dr. Katz said. “I remember Dr. Moran and what he meant for students and athletes in the 1980s and 90s. To win an award like this is an exceptional honor and one that I do not take lightly.”

Katz went on to explain that the amazing staff, board of education and school community at Fallsburg is how he justifies receiving the award.

“At the Section IX Athletic Council level, I am lucky to have an outstanding group of Principals, Athletic Directors and Superintendents to work with who also make student athletic achievement and opportunities the top priority.”
