On January 11, 1928, a beautiful soul came to earth in the form of Florence Michel. That lovely soul departed its earthly home on January 5, 2022. Her loving kindness, strength and determination, friendly generosity, delightful sense of humor, and zest for life will always remain a shining example for those who knew her.

Florence was adopted by Max and Anna Naigler Steudel at the age of three. She grew up in Canarsie, NY. By the age of 15, she had met the love of her life, Henry Michel, through family connections in the Beechwoods. In 1946, they were married. Together Florence and Henry lived the rest of their lives on the family farm in Bethel, NY.

Florence was predeceased by her husband, Henry Michel, and their daughter, Joann Michel. She is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Frederick (Nancy) and William (Cynthia). Survivors also include her dearly loved grandchildren: Ryan, Mark, Jeanna, and Jeffrey Michel.

For many years, Florence worked in the Jeffersonville School District as a cafeteria worker, but her main occupation was helping in any way possible on the family farm and being the best mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother anybody could be. Initially, as a young wife and mother, she was instrumental in the barn and in the field, but as her sons grew and hired help was added, her role was primarily that of bookkeeper and errand girl. She enjoyed making trips to anywhere to pick up something for her boys.

Florence and her indomitable spirit were always up for an adventure. She loved going on trips with the Jeffersonville Travelers. She also loved baking and usually had a freshly baked cake available for friends who would drop by. She looked forward to every spring and planting her flower beds, always starting with pansies. She was also an active member of the Bethelites. She was also a firm believer in celebrating every occasion and opportunity with a family party. Because of that, the family would like to invite all friends, neighbors, and acquaintances to a celebratory memorial later in the spring.

A graveside service was held on Saturday January 8, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Jeffersonville Lutheran Cemetery in Jeffersonville, NY. Pastor Ed Sostak officiated.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Florence can be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY 845-482-4280. To send condolences or for directions please visit stewartmurtphyfh.com.
