He then enrolled and subsequently graduated from Broom Technical College in Binghamton, New York in 1954 with a degree in engineering. Fred then enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1955 to 1957, and then as an active reserve until receiving his honorable discharge as a corporal in 1961. Fred met his future wife, Myrna Goldman in January 1960. The two were married on June 11th, 1960 in Jeffersonville, New York. They welcomed 2 children, Eric and Lisa.

Fred began working for the New York State Department of Transportation in 1957 as an engineer. He quickly became the district’s assistant resident engineer. He was also a part time land surveyor. Fred medically retired in 1972, and moved the family to Las Vegas, NV in 1975. He then took a position with the Clark County Public Works Department as a roadway inspector. He served with them for 15 years, before retiring for a second time.

Fred’s wife Myrna’s passion was with her Schnauzer dogs providing comfort therapy and to a school program called Reading to Rover for the Clark County School District in the Las Vegas, NV area. Fred joined Myrna’s passion after he retired, taking the dogs to provide comfort therapy at various Las Vegas area hospitals, nursing homes, and schools.
