Freeze for a cure

An estimated 6.5 million Americans aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s in 2022.

Team Strikeout Alz, a group of Sullivan County residents who raise funds and awareness each year to combat Alzheimer’s through their participation in the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Subzero Heroes event on Berean Lake in Ulster County, are doing so again this year.

However, in collaboration with the White Lake Fire Company, they are holding a pre-jump on White Lake called Sullivan Freeze for a Cure on January 21 at noon.

The event, which will be held at the White Lake Firehouse, has a blizzard date of January 28.

“Understanding that it is difficult for friends, family and members of our local community to make it up to Berean Lake in February, we wanted to hold an event in our own backyard to increase participation in raising awareness of this terrible disease,” said Team Strike Out Alz Captain Terry Grafmuller.

Anyone from the public, who must sign a waiver, can jump into White Lake with Team Strike Out Alz.

Donations will be accepted, but are not required. All proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association for research, programs and finding a cure. For more info, call 845-866-6275.
