Galligan announces sentencing of Monticello man for illegal gun possession

Posted

SULLIVAN COUNTY — Sullivan County District Attorney Meagan K. Galligan announced that Daniel Ridley, 35, of Monticello, was sentenced to state prison today for his illegal possession of an unloaded firearm in Monticello last year. Ridley was convicted by a Sullivan County jury of possessing a Deutsche Werke 7.65 mm pistol, the equivalent of a .32 ACP, during a domestic dispute on June 5, 2020, in the Town of Thompson. Ridley was not entitled to possess firearms as a result of his previous convictions for domestic violence and felony drug possession. Galligan’s Office recommended Ridley be sentenced to the maximum legal sentence of two and one-third to seven years of incarceration, which Sullivan County Court Judge Jim Farrell imposed.

Galligan said, “This defendant’s conduct threatens the lawful exercise of Second Amendment rights in our community. Our current laws that prohibit people with histories like this defendant from possessing pistols must be enforced so that law-abiding gun ownership is not undermined.” Galligan thanked ADA Steven Goldberg and the New York State Police for their work on this case.
