Gary P. Mall, a retired New York State Trooper and lifelong resident of Sullivan County, died Saturday, November 23, 2024. He was 79.

The son of the late Louis J. Mall and Susanna Schwatz Mall, he was born September 26, 1945 in Liberty, New York. He was a 1963 graduate of Jeffersonville-Youngsville Central School. He attended Orange County Community College and the University at Buffalo before joining the United States Army. He proudly served our country for three years before being honorably discharged in 1969.

Following his military service, Gary joined the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, working as a deputy for one year. In 1970 he entered the New York State Police Academy, graduating in October of that year. He attained the rank of Zone Sergeant and retired from Troop F in Ferndale after twenty years of service. He then went on to work with his brother Lee at Lee H. Mall Plumbing and Heating for several years.

He was a member of the Sullivan County Historical Society, Sullivan County Beekeepers Association, Jeffersonville Fire Department, and Buck Ridge Hunting Club.

Gary is survived by his wife, Linda Bury Mall at home; daughter, Diane and her husband Rich Sammarco; daughter Jennifer and her husband Josh Flad; son, Kurt and his wife Amanda; and five grandchildren, Richard and Robert Sammarco, Emerson and Amelia Mall, and Charles Flad. He is also survived by his brother, Lee Mall and his wife Danette; and several cousins, nieces, nephews.

A memorial mass was held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. George R.C. Church in Jeffersonville. Father Roland Raj, MMI, officiated. In accordance with Gary’s wishes, burial will be private and at the convenience of his family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
