T-V's Gavin Clarke shows his golf precision yet again

CALLICOON – “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” That observation about success offered by Pélé, one of the greatest soccer players of all time, sums up the elements that move performances from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

Those very same characteristics drive Tri-Valley golfer Gavin Clarke and explain his superior performance which has risen yet again this spring. Clarke, who will be attending Hofstra University in the fall to take up mechanical engineering, aerospace studies and of course golf, is the living example of dedication and perseverance. And as was alluded to in the aforementioned quote, possesses a love of the game that is beyond the pale.

Thus far this spring, he is undefeated, has won the Divisional golf tournament for the second consecutive year and is catapulting towards what he hopes will be his best Section Nine tournament performance that will send him on to states. A year ago, he missed getting to states by a single stroke. Don’t bet on that happening again.

Clarke is constantly on the greens, playing not only for the Tri-Valley Bears, but constantly vying against other fine golfers in tournaments near and far. His mechanics are exemplary and deliver the kind of consistency great golfers aspire towards.

In this dual match against Sullivan West, Clarke was not being tested by any adversary other than himself. In fact, it is that constant encounter with his own prior performances that drives him towards even greater aspirations and achievements. He has poise, concentration and patience.

To wit, the opponents matter less than his own capacity to see what is needed and to execute to attain it. Rarely do we get to see an athlete of this caliber, so driven, so talented, and so dedicated as to truly be regarded as a master. We here at the Sullivan County Democrat wish Gavin Clarke unbridled success at Sectionals, a trip to states and a great performance there and then a fruitful and remarkable tour at college both academically and on the greens.

Results: Tri-Valley 263, Sullivan West 302
