George Joseph Hecker of Castroville, passed away on December 14, 2022 in Castroville at the age of 98, just days before his 99th birthday. He was born on December 31, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, one of three children of Joseph Hecker and Emma Theresa Leibmann Hecker. 

On September 11, 1948, George married Evelyn Frances Durney at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Brooklyn, New York. They were blessed with seventy-four years of marriage and ten children. 

George proudly served in the U.S Navy during WWII. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, American Legion Weiss-Wurzbach Post 460 and the Medina Valley VFW Post 8134. 

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Hecker of Castroville; children, Mary Barnhart (Gerry) of Schaghticoke, New York, Patricia Hecker of Houston, Michael Hecker (Christine) of Boerne, Tresa Shalit (Andrew) of Castroville, Rita Anderson (Scott) of Austin, Ed Hecker (Norma) of Castroville and Tom Hecker (Theresa) of Castroville; daughter-in-law, Kadi Hecker of Castroville; seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. 

George was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter; Donna Hecker and two sons, George Hecker, Jr. and John “Jack” Hecker; brother, Joseph Hecker and sister, Kathleen Faucher.
