Helen M. Shortall of Liberty, NY a retired registered nurse for Sullivan County Public Health and a longtime area resident, died Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Garnet Health Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 89.

The daughter of the late Henry and Catherine Trehy Shields, she was born September 4, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY. Helen was a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Liberty, NY.

Survivors include her children, Janet Shortall and her husband Bryan of Ithaca, NY, Tara Magee and her husband Christopher of Elkin, NC, Kevin Shortall of Monticello, NY, Brian Shortall and his wife Linda of Liberty, NY, Timothy Shortall and his wife Jan of Monrovia, MD, Shawn Shortall and his husband Renzo Soriano of Puglia, Italy; one son-in-law, Charles Rampe of Roscoe, NY; fourteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one sister, Veronica Travers and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Shortall; one daughter, Cathleen Rampe; one grandson, Richard Shortall; and her siblings, Kathleen Heslin and Sister Kevin John Shields OP.

Graveside services and burial will be Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11 AM in the Sullivan County Veteran’s Cemetery, Liberty, NY. Dignified cremation provided by Harris Crematorium LLC.
