As the shoppers at the Barryville Farmers Market already know, the regular market season ended on Saturday, October 23rd with a big Halloween Party featuring costume prizes, a dog parade (which my canine friend Twiggy from Glen Spey was the first prize winner!) a busy trunk and treat in the Cul de Sac and ended with a dance party.

Now the Farmers Market will be reopening to hold one of their special holiday markets for Thanksgiving foods and specialties. It will be held on Saturday, November 20th from 10-1:00 p.m. in the Market’s usual location in the parking lot of the Barryville United Methodist Church at 3405 Route 97.

The Thanksgiving market will have over fourteen vendors who will have wonderful things to kick up your Thanksgiving Feast a notch or two. Like everything else that is going on there seems to be a shortage of turkeys but not at Hilly Acres farms and Van Smokey! If you want a fresh healthy NY heritage turkey, you need to call in advance and then pick it up on the 20th. The Farmers Market has two options for ordering fresh turkeys.

To place your pre-order call Hilly Acres Farm at (845) 482-4296 or email them at hillyacresfarm97@gmail.com. The second vendor Van Smokey is offering 13–20-pound turkeys from Snowdance Farm and Northwind Farm. A $25.00 deposit is required to pre-order the turkey size of your choice. To place an order, you can email Jenn@vansmokey.com. It is best to call as soon as you can for the best selection.

The other food purveyors and vendors are all our regular Market favorites including not only Hilly Acres and Van Smokey but Beaver Dam Brook Farm, The Bake House, Fretta’s Italian Specialties, Twin Brook Farms, OHF Orchards, Hidden Acre Farm, Marley’s Mushrooms, Grizzly Bagels, Stickett Inn/ Forkin Good Nuts, Soraia’s Kitchen, Country Road Bakery and Lilly Bear Pet Treats. The Barryville Farmers Market is a testament to the amazing array of exceptionally fine artisanal products that are now being successfully produced and marketed here in our community due to the strong consumer support.

The Market’s welcome table at the entrance features a huge glass bottle for donations for shoppers to fund local food programs. These donations during the Covid-19 pandemic and its ongoing aftermath of rising grocery prices and product shortages have been crucial to sustaining local food programs and pantries in receive much needed freshly prepared healthful meals from the A Single Bite program paid for by the Barryville Farmers Market’s donations. So, dust off your Barryville Farmers Market tote bag and get all your Thanksgiving fixings.
