Hope Rising

So many today are short on hope. As we look around, many things do look hopeless. So you may be wondering where to find hope. How does one tap into hope? How can we have hope when there doesn’t seem to be much to be hopeful for?

Hope can be found in only one place – by putting our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Before we can have hope, we must believe that Jesus is the only Son of God who died for our sins and was raised from the dead. As we can surrender our lives to Him, the door of hope is opened.

As we read God’s word and His promises, we come to know, love and trust Him more. The more we trust God and His faithful promises to us, the more hope begins to arise within us. Eventually we can get to the place where we can be hopeful no matter the circumstances, because we know whom we have believed in, and that He is faithful.

So let’s look at what God says about hope in His word to encourage our hope to start rising. Psalm 33:18-22 says, “But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love…We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.” Our hope is God’s unfailing love for us.

Lamentations 3:21-25 says, “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I said to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.’ The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him.”

When we don’t know what the future holds, we can look to Jeremiah 29:11-14. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord. What a wonderful promise!

Isaiah 40:29-31 encourages us when we are weak. “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”

We have this assurance from Psalm 147:11: “The Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.” Also Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”

I’ll end with one of my favorite scriptures, Romans 15:13. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
