The Fahrenholz family from Hortonville got interested in horses just about a year ago, and paced by the youngest member of the family, has really moved into the field in depth.

Heidi, 8, turns out, says her father, to be a natural. She trained for a period at Lenape Farms, now is under the tutelage of Jim Dowling, of Shalom Acres, Lake Ariel, Pa.

Heidi had a strong desire to ride, and that's what started it all; but now David and Heidi both make the shows. Heidi just took a Reserve Champion at Callicoon Center, David a fourth.

Heidi, says her father, has her eye on the Olympics already, and is planning to learn all aspects of “equitation.” David, on the other hand, is concentrating on jumping.

The parents go in for a good deal of jumping to keep up with the youngsters - but on foot, not on horseback, says Arnold.
