MONTICELLO — The 46th Annual Monster Run Classic 5K/10K, organized by the Monticello Rotary Club, took place under slightly humid conditions at Resorts World Catskills Casino in Monticello. As one of the longest-running races in Sullivan County, it continues to attract a significant number of runners and walkers.

Proceeds from the 2024 Monster Classic will benefit the Sullivan County Veterans Coalition. This event, as part of Sullivan County Patriots Day, saw over 300 runners and walkers hit the asphalt.

Bradlyn Matican, Co-chair of the event, expressed satisfaction with the community support and turnout stating, “So far, it’s beautiful. We had a great turnout of walkers and racers. We’re having great support from the community. We had a lot of sponsors this year.”

Resorts World Catskills Casino, a long-time supporter of the race. The casino contributed $3,500 to the Sullivan County Veterans Coalition and an additional $1,500 to the Monticello Rotary Club for their charitable activities.

Angela Rein, Manager of Government Affairs and Public Relations at Resorts World Catskills, said, “Resorts World is so happy to have everyone come here from the community and gather and start this epic race.”

Lori Orestano-James, President of the Monticello Rotary Club, said it has been a real team effort behind the event. Running clubs, such as the Catskills Run Club, brought their own teams to the race, adding to the excitement. “We’ve really got to come home this year with the monster being open. So we’re very excited,” said Orestano-James.

She added, “Too many of our veterans need assistance with heating, food, transportation for medical services, rent and mortgage assistance just to name a few. Monticello Rotary is glad to sponsor this race to raise awareness and funds as a way of giving back to those who served and are currently serving.”
