Hyman Louis Kapito, known as Hy, passed away  peacefully on May 20th surrounded by his loving family. The family is grateful to Mercy Hospital in Rockville, Centre, NY for the kind, compassionate care they gave to him during his last days. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Elle Kapito (nee Glick), his brothers Bill Kapito (wife: Julie), Rob Kapito (wife: Ellen) and his many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins. He was an adored son of the late Solomon (“Chuck”) Kapito and Anne Kapito (nee Silberman).

Hy was born in Monticello in 1950. During his formative years he would help his Father, Uncles and Aunt in the family business, Kapito Tires. After graduation from Monticello High School, he went on to earn his degree at Syracuse University. He soon carved out a successful career with the then-popular Martin’s Paint chain while he and Elle made Baldwin Harbor, NY their home. Later, Hy would transition from retail to become a Financial professional with Park Avenue Securities and enjoyed helping many clients. Hy was a big believer in giving back and became an ardent supporter of the UJA as well as the Sunrise Association in support of their camp programs designed to help young children with Cancer.

Hy was a good man and will be sorely missed. May his memory be a blessing.

Donations to his memory may be made to sunriseassociation.org.
