Ice Carnival returns to Livingston Manor

While freezing cold temperatures might disrupt plans elsewhere in Sullivan County, they create ideal conditions for the 63rd Annual Livingston Manor Rotary Ice Carnival. Crowds braved the frigid conditions this weekend to celebrate a local tradition that has been postponed in recent years due to warm weather or the pandemic.

“I’m so happy that we’re able to do this and that everyone is out today,” said Diane Babich, Livingston Manor Rotary Club Secretary and Festival Chairperson. “Everyone participated, whether they’re rotarians, non-rotarians or our local businesses all throughout the county. It’s so great to have this event again.”

Babich said they’re hoping to bring skating lessons back to Rotary Park and they do offer open skating at the ice rink on weekdays and weekends.

“As long as mother nature cooperates, the Rotarians will still be making ice,” she said.

Livingston Manor High School students persevered through even colder conditions on Saturday to compete in the snow sculpture contest.

Sunday’s events featured the traditional parade of the 2022 Ice Carnival King Anthony Mendoza and Queen Sienna Dutcher, skating exhibitions and skating races.

Attendees enjoyed free hot chocolate and hotdogs. The program is funded in part by grants from the Lazare & Charlotte Kaplan Foundation, the Sullivan County Youth Bureau and the Town of Rockland along with the support of local businesses.
