Irmonja (Monica) Chelakian, age 73, of Bloomingburg, NY passed away peacefully on December 13, 2021 at the Kaplan House in Newburgh, NY after a long battle with cancer.
Monica was born on July 15, 1948 in a POW camp in Germany, immigrating to the United States with her parents George and Lubow Makarenko Chelakian. She is survived by her sister Tatiana Hahn and her husband Andrew of Jeffersonville and her sister Elizabeth C. Duncan of Clifton Park, NY. She is also survived by her nephews Michael Hahn and Christopher Hahn. Monica is predeceased by her parents George and Lubow Chelakian and her fiancé Colonel James Smith.
Monica enjoyed gardening, traveling and tending her many plants. She especially loved shopping and buying for anyone who would accept her gifts.
Friends may call on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 12 to 2 PM at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Gregory Ortiz will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville, NY.
