James Slater of Woodridge passed away on October 10, 2022 at Campbell Hall Rehabilitation. He was 81.

He was one of five sons of the late Stephen and Frances (Stratton) Slater, born on January 18, 1941 in Monticello, NY.

James was co-owner and operator of Slater’s Garage in Woodridge, NY. Jim loved the outdoors, and enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing and trapping. He was an active member of his community and served as Past Chief and lifetime member of the Woodridge Fire Department for 63 years, Past President of Woods Pond Hunting Club, Past President of the Sullivan County Historical Society, Past Mayor and Trustee of Woodridge, NY and charter member of the Ambulance Corps.  He was a Master Gardener. He was a loving brother, uncle and friend, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his brother Robert “Bob” Slater; sister-in-law Yolan Slater; nephews Brett Slater and his wife Kelly and Tyler Slater; special cousins Howard and Donna Craft; and good friend Eric Akerley. He is predeceased by his brothers John, Gary and Glen Slater.

Visitation was held on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. 

A funeral and firematic service was held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Rich and Kathy Ienuso officiated. 

Interment followed at Glen Wild Cemetery, Glen Wild, NY.
