Janice Center Dance Program reaches High Note

JEFFERSONVILLE - Already the largest dance program in Sullivan County, The Janice Center set a new record for its fall ballet and hip hop sessions with 80 participants at its Holiday Recital held December 19 at the Villa Roma.

“We’ve had more than 100 dancers in some of our spring sessions, but never this many for a fall session when we are usually up against youth soccer and other outside activities,” said Janice Center co-owner Ken Cohen. “And coming off a year when we were shut down for almost four months and our future was in doubt, this was quite a comeback for us. We are very fortunate and thankful to have such a supportive and resilient community that saw us through the uncertain times.”

The dancers ages 4 through 17, performed 18 routines to a variety of holiday classics and pop songs, including Let it Snow, White Christmas, Deck the Halls, Wonder, Twist-O-Flex, Saturday, I Feel Good, Industry Baby and Butter. Under the direction of Janice Center co-owner and dance director Tanya Cohen, the 37 ballerinas (a new high) and 43 hip hoppers put on a lively and entertaining 90-minute show for the 300 attendees.

The Winter-Spring Session of Ballet and Hip Hop will begin the week of February 14. Registration is open and classes are filling quickly. For more information or to register, email ken@janicecenter. com, call/text (845) 423-8028 or visit janicecenter.com

The Janice Center also held its Winter Music Recital on December 17 featuring piano, guitar and voice students of the music and arts center. With a talented staff of five instructors, The Janice Center offers private lessons in 10 instruments. For more information, call (845) 482-3324 or text (845) 423-8028.
