The JEMS beautification group joined with the Sullivan West fourth graders to plant their beautiful classroom grown flowers in the Peck’s Gardens last Friday. The children (about 100 of them, including two 4th graders from Mrs. Hendrickson’s class) and their teachers Ms. Brey, Mrs. Ahnstrom, Ms. Jahrling , Mrs. Cossack and sub Mrs. Ruyter (covering for Mrs. Schumacher that was on yet another outing) walked down from the grade school along with some willing parents, to work with the JEMS volunteers to make our town look great!
All of them had an enjoyable time planting, asking some really good questions and hoping their own plant grows well. When you come to our Village, please take a moment to look at the length of flowers under the tree line directly in front of Peck’s. A big thank you to our JEMS members, too!
If you and your children would like to join the JEMS beautification group, please call me at 845-482-5354. The group meets every third Thursday at 7 p.m. in the basement of the 1st Presbyterian Church ( next to the Firehouse). They ask only for any time you have to volunteer to help.

This memorial fund was set up in memory of two family members whose lives were ended too soon. April Rutledge (Ackermann) lost her dad, Doug Ackermann, a dairy farmer who had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, passing away in January of 2010 at the age of 48. Her cousin Brenna Darling was an x-ray technician when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, passing away in April of 2014 at the young age of 33. April started this event to raise money for other families in Sullivan County impacted by a life threatening illness.
For more information and/or to pre-register please contact April via email at firstname.lastname@example.org , call 845-701-9054 or register on race day starting at 6:30 a.m. at the Kenoza Lake Fire House. Checks should be made payable to CFOS Doug Ackermann and Brenna Darling Memorial Fund. T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 50 registered participants. There will be Post Race refreshments for all participants, awards and raffle prizes too! If mailing payment and/or making a donation, please mail to April Rutledge, 322 Mueller Road, Cochecton, NY 12726.
