Our Fall weather has been a definite roller coaster ride! Warm and sunny then damp, dark and rainy. The foliage this year is beautiful wherever you look. I have been sending visitors down Route 97 to look at the leaves along the river. I think sometimes “we” forget how pretty our area really is.

On Sunday, October 18th the Callicoon Center Fire Department will be holding a “drive thru” - Takeout Only Chicken BBQ at the Callicoon Center Firemen's Field from 2 p.m. until sold out. Take-outs only $12 and social distancing will be enforced for every one's safety.

Unfortunately, both the Kenoza Lake Fire Department and Jeffersonville Protection Hose Company No.1 have decided to not hold their Annual Roast Beef Dinners due to COVID. However, the Youngsville Fire Department has decided to go forward with theirs for all of you roast beef dinner eaters!

Their Annual Roast Beef Dinner is Takeout ONLY on Saturday, October 31st from 3-7 p.m. or until sold out. You will be “served” in a “drive thru” style! Come on out and support the firefighters.

The Western Sullivan Public Library is having a Virtual Book Club Discussion. Join the Book Discussion Group Thursday, October 22nd at 4 p.m. to discuss The Waterworks by E.L. Doctorow.

The Waterworks, published in 1994 is described by The Washington Post Book World as, “An elegant page-turner of nineteenth-century detective fiction.” Set in 1871 in lower Manhattan, Doctorow writes, “a dark moral tale...an eloquently troubling evocation of our past.” Enjoy a “moody, elegant" thriller? Join the discussion! Also, you can virtually, join Sullivan County Poet Laureate, Lisa Colaro, for a Poetry Workshop Tuesday, October 27th at 4:30p.m.

The Sullivan County Poet Laureate is an ambassador and leading voice for encouraging the appreciation of reading and writing poetry in the County. Meet Lisa, a teacher of poetry, writing and literature at SUNY Sullivan as she leads this workshop. You will get to share your writings with other poets and get some feedback while learning the art and craft of poetry. Visit their website's calendar at www.wsplonline.org and register with your e-mail address to receive the Zoom Link for either or both events.

Please let me know if you have anything you would like to share!
