Jethro Tull’s Martin Barre coming to Bethel Woods

Posted

Martin Barre, longtime lead bass guitar for British rock band Jethro Tull, is bringing his Aqualung 50th Anniversary Tour to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on March 24, focusing on the band’s world renowned album ‘Aqualung’ alongside original band member and drummer Clive Bunker.

Although Jethro Tull dissolved as a band in 2011, the music that reached millions of rock music fans since the 1970’s is being carried on by the Aqualung 50th Anniversary Tour performed by original member Martin Barre and his band, joined by original drummer Clive Bunker.

Aqualung has sold over seven million copies since its original release in 1971. The album contains a total of 11 tracks, each drawing its own attention from music critics and fans alike.

The tour was initially halted due to COVID-19 social restrictions in 2019 and is now making its return back to the stage.

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts venue is located on the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock music festival in Bethel, which welcomed an estimated 400,000 concert attendees for the three-day long event.

Jethro Tull was unable to perform at Woodstock, but has a history of touring alongside other performers, including Jimi Hendrix, who performed at the music festival and was a close friend of Barre.

“When we [Jethro Tull] toured Scandinavia as his [Hendrix’s] support band, I was petrified as you would be for a guitar player,” Barre said. “He was just charming, gracious, humble, and it really affected me because it really helped me through a very difficult period of trying to establish myself as a musician in a major band.”

Now the established guitarist is bringing the memorable hits from the album Aqualung on the Aqualung 50th Anniversary Tour to the Event Gallery at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on March 24.
