John Danchak Jr. better known as “Jack Danchak” has passed at the age of 83. He was born in Simpson, PA to John Danchak Sr. and Katherine Danchak (Ewvonision). He had a brother David Danchak who passed at the age of 52 after serving in Vietnam. His father ran a barbershop and mother had a beauty shop. They then went on to have a clothing store in Honesdale, PA.
Jack was a star Basketball player for Fel High School, topping the charts with the highest scoring player in record of the high school. He went on to Business school where he got an Associate’s Degree in business. Then on to the Military, Army. He was stationed in Florida for his duty. He then came home to the new family business and worked The Nutshell in Lake Huntington, NY. There he met Kay Francis Loughrey and married soon after.
With $500 dollars in their pocket, they bought a gorgeous convertible and the corner property in Fosterdale, NY. They ran a diner through the era of 1969 Woodstock, twelve years after converting it to Jack’s Sporting Goods. They had the other section of the property, which was a gas station and tire changing business, later becoming Jack’s Mini Mart. They together worked the corner for 35 years.
Jack also had a radio show. His motto was “I hope you’re enjoying Sullivan County as much as I am.”
This hard work enabled them to build a gorgeous home on 136 acres in Equinunk, PA.
Jack was the President for 30 years to the Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, he and Kay devoting their time to the community, holding events for all hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his eldest son John Danchak the 3rd, wife Lisa Danchak along with 2 children Brayden and Addyson of New Brunswick, NJ. His second son William Danchak and fiancée Karen Casucci of Port St. Lucie FL, daughter Liane Danchak and fiancé Robert Cyle Levy of Honesdale, PA, a nephew David Danchak Jr.
He was predeceased by his wife Kay Danchak.
Visitation will be Monday, September 16, 2024 from 10:00am to 12:00pm, then a ½ hour service in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Burial will follow in the Kenoza Lake Cemetery, Kenoza Lake, NY.
