The sports world lost one its most dedicated fans when Kenneth Hoering of Weirton, WV, passed away on March 30, 2025. For several years, in an ongoing battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Ken actively embraced life as a participant and sports fan in every way he possibly could, from fitness training to running to darts contests. Born September 1, 1957, in Liberty, NY, he was the son of Otto and Helena (Goettel) Hoering, who had emigrated from Germany in the 1930s. The family owned and operated the Lake Jefferson Hotel in Jeffersonville, NY from the 1940s until the 1970s. Beloved husband of Cherie Ann (Grimm) Hoering, Ken leaves behind many family members and friends. These include brother Rudolf Hoering (Helen), nephews Otto Hoering (Moira) and Peter Golembe (Regine), nieces Katrina Chellis (William) and Ellen Rubin (Jonathan) and brother-in-law John Golembe. Kenneth was predeceased by his parents as well as by his first wife, Elda Jean

(Nencioni) Hoering, and his sister, Evelyn Hoering Golembe.

Throughout his life, Ken proved his love of sports in many ways. Born with a disability that limited the use of his right hand, he depended on his legs to become a highly competitive, varsity cross-country runner in his high-school years. When it came to endurance over long distances, he powered on with an unstoppable determination. Following graduation and two years of study at a nearby community college, he went into business, opening the popular store, “Ken’s Card & Comics” in the middle of the main street of his hometown, Jeffersonville, NY. And in his spare time, he voluntarily assisted the track team coach at his alma mater. After moving to Burgettstown, PA with Elda, he became one of the most dependable employees of a major grocery chain in the area of his new home. It was there, after Elda passed away in 2002, that Ken had the wonderful good fortune to meet, love and marry Cherie, his devoted wife and partner for the rest of his life. Together, they enjoyed sports events throughout the Pittsburgh area as well as across the American continent.

There will be a visitation on Sunday, April 6th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV 26062. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April 7th at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at the Center Cemetery in Midway, PA, followed by a dinner for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made in Kenneth’s memory to the: Parkinson's Foundation, 5757 Waterford District Drive, Suite 310, Miami, FL 33126.
