Greetings on a cold, late April day. Feels more like early March rather than late April. No apple blossoms yet.

My new Kenoza Lake news column schedule will be twice a month. However, I am making an exception this week as this coming week is the biggest bird watching week for those readers who are birders. My wrens arrived on Sunday. Although I have seen the wrens, I have heard them. Probably the males on house scouting missions. All my wren houses are cleaned out and awaiting wrens. Peggy Slater has had Rose-breasted grosbeaks at her feeders. I had a female Rose-breasted grosbeak but no males yet. My hummingbird feeders are on my kitchen counter, I need to make a batch of nectar as they will be here any day. Also, the Baltimore orioles will arrive about the same time the hummers arrive.

The Jeffersonville Presbyterian church will be holding its chicken barbeque dinner on May 7th. You must pre-order your barbeque tickets or take a chance with stand-by tickets, at the end of the barbecue. Call Kathy Herbert or Ruth Duncan (845-701-3884) for tickets.

Last week, Ed Mascara was motoring along Route 17B, near White Lake around 9:30 pm. He saw something along the yellow line. He stopped along the road and saw an injured barred owl. He stopped traffic, called the Sheriff’s office, and then rescued the owl, now named Hootie. The owl spent the night in a box and the next day, was brought to a rescue and rehab facility, where it was determined that the owl had a broken wing or leg. Thank you for caring Ed!

Wow-wow-wow! Elon Musk purchasing Twitter. In honor of this purchase, I signed up for Twitter for the first time. Another wow! NYS Re-districting decision for the Congressional and Senate districts. (I believe that the Assembly districts will remain, as redistricted.) I understand that the June primary may be pushed back until August. We don’t know yet whether we will return to the 19th District or not. NYS lost a congressional seat with the 2020 census. Stay tuned.

Cochecton Christian school spaghetti dinner and raffle, Saturday, May 7th, 6:00 pm. This will benefit the Cochecton Christian Homeschooling Co-op. Also, Mother’ Day gift basket raffle. Call Elizabeth at 845-482-1928 for more information.

Pampered Chef, The White Lake Fire Company Auxiliary will be hosting a PAMPERED CHEF event from May 13th to the 20th. Go to White Lake Fire Company Auxiliary for more information. (On-line only).

Best wishes to Jeffersonville, RFD, post office carrier, Jim Edwards on his retirement, today, April 29th. Jim always had a smile on his face and was the epitome of that famous post office saying:

Neither ran, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds.
