MIDDLETOWN — Despite a strong start, the No. 1 seed Tri-Valley Lady Bears fell to the No. 2 seeded Millbrook Blazers at Middletown High School on Tuesday, November 1, with a final score of 8-1.

With the Section IX Class C Girls Soccer Championship on the line, the Lady Bears came out in full force and were able to dominate in the early part of the first half.

Surrounded by the Blazer’s defense pressure, #5 Kendall McGregor scored for the Lady Bears at 19:38 as the fans from Sullivan County roared from the stands.

However, as the sun was setting, turning the sky to a pink-purple outburst, the sun was setting on the chances for the Lady Bears to secure a win.

Soon after McGregor’s goal that opened up the match, the Blazers barreled down the pitch and leveled the game with a goal from Millbrook’s #3 Hudson Heitmann, who ended up having five goals for the Blazers before the night was over.

As the Lady Bears tried to regroup from the shocking rebound scoring from the Blazers, the Blazers continued to break through the Lady Bears’ defense to score multiple goals leaving Millbrook up by 3 after the first half with a score of 4-1.

Going into the second half, the Lady Bears had a tall hill to climb if they wanted to keep the team’s season alive, but the Blazers would have none of it, and helped future seal the fate of the Blazers with a goal soon after the sound of the whistle.

While the Lady Bears pushed, they were met with the Blazers’ stiff defense and could not break through and score another goal for the remainder of the game.

While the Lady Bears did not score another goal, the goalkeeper Kaylee Poppo walked away with seven saves throughout the game.

The Blazers went on to score four more goals before the game was out. Now having won, Millbrook will be heading down to Newburgh to face off with Haldane from Section I for the regionals on Saturday, November 5.
