Monti girls roll over Eldred as new coaches advise

MONTICELLO – With Monticello’s Ryan Jasper assuming the role of Interim Athletic Director, the job of coaching the Lady Panthers was passed on to former J.V. coach Sheila Burns, who played for Jasper at Eldred in the Lady Yellowjackets’ great run that took them to the state semifinals.

Burns understands the system Jasper put in place and the personnel on the team.

For Eldred though, with June Hallock just recently taking over to fill the unanticipated coaching vacancy, it’s going to take a while to get things on track.

As Monticello is Class A and Eldred is Class D, a normal disparity of talent is to be expected. That was certainly the case as the Lady Montis outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 30-6.

Monticello has lost its two league games thus far, a four-point loss to Goshen and a 46-39 loss to Minisink Valley.

Their record is now 2-3 (0-2). Eldred fell to 0-4 with the loss to Monticello followed by a subsequent loss to Port Jervis.

They failed to reach double digits in either of those contests.

Monticello senior Aaliyah Mota led all scorers with 13 points in the game against the Lady Yellowjackets.
