We finally made it to May! The snow is gone, the days are longer and now is the perfect time to spend the days outside (minus the mayflies!) Here are a few new happenings that are taking place in the upcoming weeks, so be sure to mark your calendars!

The Women’s Community Club of Cochecton is happy to again offer small scholarships to Sullivan West graduating seniors who live within the Town of Cochecton. The only requirement is a brief essay about community service. Length doesn’t matter, our goal is encouraging students to think about helping the community. Although the deadline has recently passed, students can still be considered by contacting the Guidance Department or emailing pamdeman@charter.net.

Attend a garden barbecue to learn about the future farm at 120 Stony Road, Lake Huntington, NY on Saturday May 7 from 12-5 PM. Lunch and tea will be served, children and families welcome! Text to RSVP 609-323-5334 or silverlotusfarm@gmail.com.

Join SUNY Sullivan for their 30th annual kite festival on Saturday, May 7 from 11 AM – 4 PM in the SUNY Sullivan Courtyard. Free parking and admission with the first 200 kids receiving a free kite. Festivities include kite show, film festival, bubble displays, vendors, kids bouncy house, DJ, food and more!

Celebrate Shad History at the Erie Depot! The Cochecton Preservation Society will hold a celebration on Saturday, May 21 from 10 AM – 4 PM at 8537 Route 97, Cochecton, NY. There is also a poster contest for K-12 students with a Shad Celebration theme. Please call 845-932-8104 or cps12726@gmail.com to register.

The Turtle Trot is on Saturday, July 9 starting at 8 AM at the Kenoza Lake Firehouse. Sign up, sponsor or donate prizes for the raffles via April Rutledge at 845-701-9054 or via email at farmerack@ yahoo.com.

Get your EMT Basic certification this summer! SUNY Sullivan is holding the 12-week course beginning on June 1, 2022. Please contact Captain Mike Bruce via email at cochectonambulanceems@gmail.com for an application packet. Make a difference!

There will be a Penny Social hosted by Rhythm & Grace Dancers on Saturday, May 14 at the Livingston Manor Firehouse, 93 Main Street, Livingston Manor, NY. Doors open at 3 PM and calling starts at 5 PM. Admission: 12 and over $4.00, under 12 $3.00. They will have gift certificates, toys, books, movies, 50/50, something for everyone as well as refreshments for sale. Proceeds to benefit the Rhythm & Grace Ambassadors and Pre-Ambassadors dancing at Universal Studios.
