April 18 — Talk about a week of beautiful weather! It has been great being able to get outside and walk, garden and more. I have a list of things to do outside, and I am so grateful the weather has been cooperating!

Here are a few upcoming local events that are happening in our community and nearby towns.

Save the date – Lake Huntington Lake Association 1st Annual Earth Day Celebration on April 29th from 11 AM – 1 PM at 6692 NY-52, Lake Huntington, NY. Family fun, arts, crafts, cookies, fire trucks & ambulances, face painting, music, performances and more! For more information, lhnylakeassociation@gmail.com or  845-932-8189.

Firehouse Antiques located at 7 Mueller Road, Cochecton, NY is now open for the season on weekends only! Stop by on Saturdays or Sundays from 10 AM – 3 PM to see what they found this winter. For more information www.thefirehouseantiques.com

There is a fulfilling and enriching way to support the arts in our community! The Delaware Valley Opera Co. has a wonderful opportunity idea for you.

Become a Housing Host for the 2023 opera season. Get to know interesting and friendly people while making a much needed and appreciated contribution to this season’s productions.

Their priority is quality, so much of our budget is spent on artistic talent. To afford high quality productions we rely on the support of our neighbors in the community for housing.

Each host receives a letter from DVO for taxes, thanking and acknowledging the in-kind donation of housing equal to the room rates of local B&B’s or hotels.

There are three productions this season that need housing host:

“The Three Bears” – an opera for children: performance dates are Saturday morning, June 24th, and Sunday afternoon June 25th.

A total of 9 days - Artists arrive Sunday, June 18th and depart Monday, June 26th.

“La Boheme” – performances are on Saturday and Sunday, July 15 & 16 and Saturday and Sunday, 22 & 23.

A total of 19 days - Artists arrive Thursday, July 6th and depart Monday, July 24th.

“The Audition” – a spoof on the opera audition – performances are on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 18, 19 & 20th.

A total of 10 days - Artists arrive on Saturday, August 12 and depart Monday, August 21.

If you have an extra room, please consider supporting the DVO by being a host. And if you know someone who might be interested, please pass along information about this opportunity.

Please contact info@delawarevalleyopera.org to answer any questions.

If you have a local business that would like to be spotlighted in an upcoming column, please get in touch! Please email jenn@jennpowelldesigns.com with any news, events, and happenings.
