LaPolt Park hosts rally for Ukraine

LIBERTY — Dozens of Ukrainian employees from Liberty Temp Services Inc. held a demonstration in LaPolt Park Tuesday evening to protest the ongoing Russian invasion of that country.

Speaking in Ukrainian to those assembled, Dmytro Honcharenko prayed for the safety of Ukrainian citizens, as well as his family and the families of his co-workers.

Honcharenko said that he and everyone assembled that evening stands in solidarity with their fellow Ukranians.

Guennadi Nestoiter, President of Liberty Temp Services Inc., helped to organize the demonstration.

The rally was joined by Town of Liberty Supervisor Frank DeMayo, Pastor Edward Sostak, County Legislator Luis Alvarez, Village of Liberty Police Chief Steve D’Agata and others.

“There are no words … for the devastation going on in Ukraine right now.” Supervisor DeMayo told those assembled. “But we really want you to know that in a place called ‘Liberty’ we stand behind you and support you.”

Legislator Alvarez talked about sharing an office with fellow County Legislator Nadia Rasjz, who is of Ukrainian descent.

“We had a resolution and wrote a letter protesting what is happening in your country at this time,” Alvarez said.

The demonstration ended with a rendition and singing of the State Anthem of Ukraine.
