League wins for county teams

Both Roscoe and Monticello secured league wins at home on Thursday night, winning 47-39 and 52-40 respectively.

After starting the season with eight road games, Roscoe finally had their home opener, hosting Chapel Field. The lions had a distinct size advantage, and backed by the shooting capabilities of prolific scorer, Jonah McDuffie, the Blue Devils had their work cut out for them. However, exceptional play by Alaniz Ruiz and Anthony Teipelke, who scored 22 and 16, combined with the team’s perimeter defense helped secure the wire to wire win.

The Panthers were also in league action last night, after suffering some heartbreaking defeats in close games that could have gone either way. Monticello was 2-7 (0-3) going into the game, but a strong first half, led by the defense, gave Monticello a 24-7 lead at halftime. Minisink found their stride in the third quarter, scoring 20 points, but Monticello was able to retain the lead and outscore them in the fourth to earn a much-needed division win.
