ROSCOE – Liberty visited Roscoe on Wednesday night to take on the Lady Blue Devils. The rebuilding of the program in Roscoe has led to some bumps in the road this season, but the young team has a lot of quit despite the score.
Liberty got a good chance to make some defensive adjustments in the game and work on some things offensively, and were able to head home with a 37-13 win.
Liberty managed only six points of offense in the first quarter, but they kept Roscoe off the board and took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter.
In the second frame, Liberty’s defense continued to stifle the Lady Blue Devils at every turn, and the Lady Indians offense began clicking. Liberty outscored Roscoe 12-0 for an 18-0 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Liberty rattled off 13 more points to take a 31-0 lead before Roscoe got their first shot of the night to fall, a 3-pointer by Ashlee Ladenhauf. Roscoe ended the quarter on a 5-2 run to make it 33-5 going into the 4th.
Liberty’s Emily Curry led all scorers with 11 points, and Liberty spread their offense out across eight different scorers in the game.
Despite struggling to find any offense in the first half, Roscoe put up eight points in the 4th quarter, outscoring Liberty 8-4 to end the game 37-13.
“I think we executed very well in the third quarter, and were able to put some points up on the board,” Liberty Coach Pete Dworetsky said after the game. “It was a good display of sportsmanship tonight, and I’m happy about that.”
In a program rebuilding year, it is important to find positive takeaways from each game, and Roscoe’s Coach Evan Bowers was happy with his team’s performance.
“We slowed them down in the first quarter, and once we got the first shot to drop everyone seemed to be a bit more comfortable out on the court. These girls don’t give up and they aren’t afraid to take shots.”
Liberty hosted Sullivan West on Friday night and will be back in action against Chester on Thursday.
Roscoe’s next game is a league matchup in Eldred on Thursday.
