Liberty offense heats up in road win

ROSCOE – The sports season is full of ups and downs, but learning how to recover from a string of losses and coming back with a big win can right the ship before you know it. Liberty suffered a few league losses last week, but got a big non-league win against Roscoe on Tuesday night behind a dominant offensive performance by Cody Ricco.

Both offenses started slow, but Liberty picked it up in the second thanks in large part to their defense and ability to increase the pace of the game. At the end of the first quarter the score was just 7-5, but by halftime Liberty had extended their lead to 18. A 26-10 second quarter, including 11 points from Ricco, gave Liberty a 33-15 lead at the break.

Roscoe made some adjustments and came out better in the third quarter, outscoring the visiting Indians 17-14, but trailing 47-32 proved to be too difficult a mark to overcome.

Ricco added nine more points in the fourth, converting three 3-pointers in the quarter, as the Indians ran away with the game. Liberty won the fourth quarter 23-7 and the game 70-39.

Ricco (27), Londyn Guara (12)  and Collin Flynn (10) were the three Indians to score in the double digits, but almost everyone on the team scored at least once in the win.

Roscoe was led by Aiden Johnston’s 11 points, nine of which came via the 3-pointer in the third quarter.

After their three league matchups last week, the non-league matchup served as a reset for the Blue Devils, getting them ready for a rematch against Chapel Field, who remains undefeated in class D.
