Liberty takes down S.S. Seward

LIBERTY – The Liberty Indians 3-3 (1-1) are back to .500 after defeating the Seward Spartans 17-7 on Thursday afternoon.

Tanner Bury was credited with the win on the mound going four innings, while Dylan Nichols, Francisco Gonzalez and Elliel Lima each contributed two hits and three RBIs.

Baseball

Eldred ended up on the winning end of a pitcher’s duel against Tri-Valley on Thursday afternoon. The two teams combined for just six hits in the game, with the Bears getting four and the Yellowjackets getting just two.

Tri-Valley’s Austin Hartman struck out 14 in 6 .1 innings, walked three and gave up two earned runs.

Josh Warming struck out 11, gave up four hits and two walks in 6.2 innings. Peyton Brischler had the biggest hit of the afternoon with a 2-run single that gave Eldred the lead and the win.

Monticello hosted Port Jervis on Thursday and the Raiders shut the Panthers out 16-0 in five innings. Monticello mustered just four hits in the loss.

Monticello followed up their loss to Port Jervis with a big 9-4 win over Sullivan West at Cooperstown’s Double Day Field on Friday morning. The Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the third inning before adding three more runs in the top of the sixth. Sullivan West scored one in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh inning in the loss. Monticello out-hit the Bulldogs 14-3. 

Softball

Tri-Valley defeated Liberty 15-0 and moved to 2-1 on the season with the Thursday afternoon victory. Jenna Carmody pitched a complete game, giving up just one hit while striking out 10 in five innings. On offense, Carmody hit a double, scored twice and drove in a run. 

Golf

The Monticello boys continued their campaign on Friday with a matchup against Valley Central. Chase McFarland shot a 40 and Joseph Russo shot a 41, but the Panthers lost 216-252 against a very even scoring effort from VC.
