CALLICOON - The Delaware Valley basketball team used a third quarter 23-13 scoring advantage over a visiting Warwick team on their way to a 68-57 victory Wednesday night. With the win, DVCS raised its mark in pre-league play to 6-0.

Chris LeGrow and Joe Green gave Warwick an early 4-0 lead, but an outside jumper by Mike Bauer and layup by Morgan Mitterwager tied it at 4-4. Neither team was able to gain more than a two point lead for the rest of the quarter.

Mitterwager scored the final two of his eight first quarter points to put DV ahead at 12-10. But Harold Daly tied it again at 12-12 on a rebound off his own shot, before Bauer and Green traded baskets to make it 14-14 at the end of the quarter.

DV's Derek McKinney opened up the second quarter with a jumper from way out to make the score 16-14, only to have LeGrow tie it up again. DV then went on a 10-4 streak, to open up a six point lead, then watched it vanish as Warwick turned the tables on the Eagles and went on a 10-4 streak of their own. LeGrow tied it at the buzzer, 30-30, on a nice jumper from the foul line.

With the score at 34-34 early in the third quarter, Delaware Valley was finally able to put the game out of reach when they went on a 14-4 scoring spree to open up a ten point lead at 48-38. During the streak, Mitterwager hit for five baskets on a series of nice inside moves and outside jumpers.

Two baskets by DV's Glenn Hermann almost matched three baskets by Green, to make the score 50-42, before a two-pointer by Joe Smith and foul shots by Mitterwager and Warwick's Gary Klopchin closed out the third quarter at 53-43.

Warwick played evenly with DV in the fourth quarter, in spite of three technical fouls within a span of two minutes. The Eagles opened up their largest lead of the night at 60-45 as a result of the plague of fouls.

Warwick cut the DV lead to 60-51 with three straight hoops, before Bauer broke the streak to up the Eagles lead to 11 points at 62-51. Both teams then traded baskets to the end of the game, for the final 68-57.

Delaware Valley was led by Mitterwager with 23, Hermann with 15, and Bauer with 12.

Warwick was led by Green with 20, Klopchin with 13, and LeGrow with 10.
