Looking back on 2021

SULLIVAN COUNTY - To say the least, 2021 was an interesting year for sports. After Covid-19 robbed high schoolers from the opportunity to play sports for over a year, things finally began to go back to normal, albeit a new normal. The year got off to a slow start, without any sports in the early part of it, but eventually in the spring, schools from all over the county started participating in shortened seasons for a variety of interscholastic athletics.

There were two separate football seasons in 2021, with Roscoe/Livingston Manor/Downsville going undefeated in the division before losing to Pawling in the 8-Man Championship in the spring, and Sullivan West dominating the division before losing to Spackenkill in the 8-Man Championship in the fall.

Similarly with soccer, Eldred and Sullivan West girls both made the playoffs twice this year, and the Liberty boys joined in that success as well. Over the summer, the Sullivan County Democrat Two-Man Better Ball Tournament went on as usual.

There were a lot of great memories to look back on in 2021, and it is very exciting to start the 2021-22 school year with a traditional sports schedule after the shortened 2020-21 seasons.
