Mabel I. Brucher, a Gold Star Mother, died at the Skilled Nursing Unit Garnet Health in Harris, NY on Thursday, March 25, 2021. She was 99. She was the widow of Leo Brucher who died December 16, 1983.

Mabel was born in Oswego, NY, November 1, 1921, the fourth child born to Carl W. Beardslee, Sr. and Inda Lottie Youmans Beardslee, both deceased. The family returned to Mr. Beardslee's hometown, Walton NY, Delaware County where Mabel attended and graduated from local schools. She was married November 1, 1940 to Leo Brucher at The First Baptist Church of Walton.

She was a member of the White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church. She loved her church and enjoyed baking for bake sales, church suppers and other church events. She was President of the Ladies Auxiliary to Sgt. Andrew C. Brucher Memorial Post 5499 VFW of White Lake, NY. She was an avid reader, reading for pure pleasure. She loved paying scrabble, yard sales and flea markets. She was into scrapbooking, making scrapbooks of all kinds of pictures for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The last scrapbook she made was for a dear little girl at church.

She is survived by two daughters, Diana Rumsey of White Lake, NY, Virginia (Donald) Simmons, of Middletown, NY; son Kenneth (Karen) Brucher of White Lake, NY; a half-brother Keith Beardslee of Horsehead, NY; sister-in-law Mary Beardslee of Florida; four grandchildren: Kevin, Keith and Kraig Rumsey and Sean Simmons; eleven great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Beside her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Sgt. Andrew C. Brucher, killed in Vietnam on April 4, 1967; a daughter, Judy Brucher, June 30, 1997; son-in-law Henry Rumsey; two brothers Carl W., Jr. and Ralph Beardslee; sisters Mrs. Iona Scrivens, Dr. Clarissa Beardslee and Betty Benintende.

Visitation will be held from 12 to 3pm Saturday, March 27, 2021 at White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church. A funeral service will be held at 3pm at the church. Pastor David Coon will officiate. Guidelines set forth by the State of New York will be followed, masks and social distancing are required.
