Margaret Ann Beirne, “Peggy” to her friends, married to Joseph L. Beirne for 49 years, passed away August 27, 2025 at Riverside Post-Acute, formerly St. Vincent’s Riverside, Jacksonville, Florida.
Peggy was born in Buffalo, NY November 16, 1947 to Frank and Audree Lucas.
She is survived by her husband Joseph. She was a mother to 5 children: Eric and his wife Angela, Pamela, William, Jeffrey and his wife Jeannie and Robert and his wife Anna.
She is survived by 6 Grandchildren: Vanessa, Michelle, Blake, Sean, Dylan and Adrianna. She is also survived by her brother Frank and his wife Jeanna of Buffalo, NY.
She was a graduate of the State University of New York – Oneonta with a Master’s Degree in Education and a minor in Family and Consumer Science Education. She was a retired Home Economics Teacher.
Peggy was a 45 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star serving as Matron numerous times, the New York State Grand Representative to the State of Florida in 2013 and the 2017 District Deputy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Delaware-Sullivan District, State of New York. She served as an Adviser to Danielle Triangle Chapter, Liberty, NY. She was a member of Southside Chapter #28, Order of the Eastern Star in Jacksonville, FL. She served on St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Council. For 20 years she oversaw the “Wednesday Night Dinner” at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for “those in need in the community”. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout and Webelo Leader. She received several awards from both Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America. She was awarded the “Hummingbird Award” from the Liberty Rotary Club. She was awarded a “Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition” for her outstanding and invaluable service to the community. She was awarded “The National PTA® Life Achievement Award”. The highest honor from the nation’s largest child advocacy organization — to the person who daily lives out her commitment to children.
There will be 2 Memorial Services on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24 Chestnut Street (next to the Liberty Post Office), Liberty, NY 12754. The Order of the Eastern Star will have a Memorial Service at 11:30 AM, followed by St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Service at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at Liberty Cemetery. Refreshments will be served following interment back at St. Paul’s.
There is limited parking at the church. The “Bell Tower” is undergoing long needed repair. If you are able to walk any distance, please park in the Municipal Parking Lot on Darbee Lane across from the Elks Lodge. If you are not able to walk the distance, a shuttle will be available. Pull up in front of the church for shuttle instructions.
