Mark William Carlson, age 69 of Oxford, NY passed away unexpectedly on January 22, 2021. He was born in July 1951 in Monticello, NY. He was the son of the late William G. and Helen B. (Jacobson) Carlson.

He is survived by his precious wife of 39 years, Lorayne; son, Christopher Carlson and his husband Charles of Clearwater, FL; daughter, Erica Payne and her husband Charles of Hurleyville, NY; stepson, Jonathan Seargent and his wife Sarah of Kirkville, NY; stepdaughter, Michelle Whitbeck and her husband Adam of Greene, NY; grandchildren, Ariel and Scarlett Payne, Alex, Rebecca and Emma Seargent, and Laura and Seth Whitbeck; sisters, Teri DiMarsico and her husband Thomas of Palm Coast, FL, and Toni McKay of Narrowsburg, NY; niece, Mariann Bury and her husband Darren; Uncle Dick Tremper as well as several cousins and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Robert McKay.

After graduating from Fallsburg Jr/Sr High School, Mark studied Hospitality and Culinary Arts school at Sullivan County Community College. He retired after serving 35 years as a NYS Corrections Officer. He had also been a commercial driver for Sullivan Foods, Wilson Bus Co., Gershowitz Bus Co., Oneonta Bus Lines and Hale Transportation, and he was also a bus driver for Oxford Academy and Central School. He was a life member of the Hurleyville Fire Department, a member of the Hurleyville Ambulance Corps and a member of the Liberty Elks.

He enjoyed travel, camping and cruises. His favorites were Gettysburg and historical sites. He also enjoyed dinner theaters. He had a big soft spot for all animals. He enjoyed home improvement projects and cutting firewood. He had a love/hate relationship with lawn mowing.

Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 from 4-6 PM and at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 NYS Route 52, Woodbourne, NY on Friday from 12-2 PM, which will include a firematic service. Burial will be in Hurleyville Cemetery.

A memorial celebration of his life is being planned for mid July 2021.
