Mary Lee Adamson, aka Grandma Mary, age 87, of South Fallsburg, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2022, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

The daughter of the late Richard L. Bryant Sr. and Agnes (King) Bryant, she was born on May 3, 1935, in Uniontown, AL. Mary Lee accepted Christ at an early age and joined the First Missionary Baptist Church in Uniontown, AL. She relocated to South Fallsburg, NY in 1959 to pursue new career and educational opportunities.

Mary Lee, as she was affectionately called, worked at Inter-County Egg Company for several years in Woodridge, NY. Education was always important to her. She had an opportunity to participate in a one-year Medical Laboratory Program at Sullivan Community College in 1970. She made the Dean’s List both semesters. Academically, she was a success. In 1972 she earned her Associate of Science Degree in Liberal Arts from Sullivan Community College. She transferred to SUNY New Paltz and commuted to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree, as well as her Masters Degree in Special Education. Mary Lee worked 22 years at Sullivan County BOCES as a Para-Professional in the Special Education Department. She was in her true element in the classroom helping the students.

In addition to being committed to education, Mary Lee was also devoted to her church, civic organizations and her community. She was named Mother of the Church for the First Baptist Church in South Fallsburg in 2014. Other positions held were Treasurer of the Sunday School, Secretary, Custodian and Usher Board. Some civic duties were Sergeant in the Town of South Fallsburg Auxiliary Police Department. Also, an active member in the NAACP and the Peace of The Valley Chapter of BATH-SHE-BA Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Woodridge, NY.

Mary Lee was a loving and devoted mother, friend and community activist. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to treasure her memories and mourn her passing three children: daughters Barbara Adamson (Mt. Vernon, NY), Wanda Adamson (Buffalo, NY), son Willie “Bubba” Adamson (Bradenton, FL), and son-in-law Hurdy Watler, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Bryant Jr. of Middletown, NY.

No services will be held, per her request. Thanks for your prayers for her family, friends and extended family members.
