Mary Ruth Salisbury of Cochecton, a retired computer operator for the Sullivan County Dept. of Social Services in Liberty, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Care Center at Sunset Lake in Liberty. She was 91.

The daughter of the late Edward Cocot and Carrie Fischer Cocot she was born February 28, 1930 in Monticello.

Mary was a devoted mother and nothing was more important to her than her children. While she worked an occasional job to help out with the bills, her primary role was raising her children. She often bragged about her children and their accomplishments.

Mary was an avid bowler and belonged to a team and league in Kiamesha, NY where she received numerous trophies and 200 pin games. Later in life she took up golfing and became an avid golfer. She enjoyed golfing with her son Ralph and her daughter Nevada and Nevada's husband Bob.

After raising her children, Mary pursued her education, getting her GED and an Associates Degree from Sullivan County Community College that led to her obtaining a position in Data Entry at the Department of Social Services in Liberty.

Mary led a full life. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting with her sons Johnny and Joseph and gold digging and camping with her son Billy. Her daughter Ruth Ann was an amazing cook and would often have her mother over for special dinners which Mary truly enjoyed.

She visited CA and HI with her daughter Nevada and son-in-law Bob and visited the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and New Mexico. She loved to travel and was not afraid to get in her vehicle and take off wherever she wanted to go.

In her later years she lived with her son Ralph and daughter-in-law Tammy where she was very loved and cared for as her needs increased. Support to Ralph and Tammy was provided by her daughter Sheila who lived down the road and youngest son Joseph who would often spend the day with his mother on the weekend.

Mary will be very missed by her family and those who knew her. She was very loved.

She is survived by her children: Wilbur Brown, Johnny Brown, Nevada Vaughn, Sheila Shaw, Ralph Powell and Joseph Powell. Her 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Her sister Johanna Morris of Monticello, NY…and many nieces and nephews.
